ST. JAMES CONCERT SERIES

History

The St. James Concert Series, providing classical and semi-classical musical programs to the mother lode communities, celebrates its 44th year.

The St. James Episcopal Church (the historic Red Church of Sonora) provides an excellent venue for international and local artists in which to perform. Refreshments are provided after most of the concerts This gives the audience an opportunity to socialize and to meet with the performers.

In addition to bringing classical and semi-classical music to the mother lode, the St. James Concert Series sponsors the Sierra Music Scholarship fund which provides financial assistance to local classical music students.

Featured artists have included the Mother Lode Friends of Music Orchestra and the Sonora Master Chorale in Handel "Acis and Galatea"; the Sonora Opera Guild, internationally renowned pianists FrankWiens, Audrey Andrist. violinist Warren van Brockhorst, and Duo Concertante (pianist Wolfgang Fetsch and violinist Anita Felix. Local artists include pianists Mark Seiver, Dorothy Woodford Arnt, Gail Johnson, Kim Plowman, oboist Gail Buzzard, bassoonist Jane Buzzard, flutist Yvonne Denton, singers Sally Peters, Julie Sieben, and John and Linda Carter. We have also had the Golden Bough, Jazz@8 and other performers that are somewhat outside the label of classical music.
